Rondinaud is the European slippers specialist. The story of the Rondinaud family is inextricably entwined with that of the Charentaise slipper. The slipper was first invented during Louis XIV's reign in Angoulême in the Charente region of France by shoemakers who worked wool felt to kit out the royal navy. They collected up the offcuts to make the famous "Charentaise" slippers, featuring a wool upper, a felt sole and no distinction between the left and right foot so the slippers would last longer. The Rondinaud family began manufacturing the Charentaise slipper around the beginning of the 20th Century. Rondinaud slippers now follow the current trends in fashion but still retain a delicate balance between old and new.
